This High Output Concrete Train (HOCT) was built for Balfour Beatty in 2012. The adoption of a pair of volumetric mixers onto a rail wagon was a first in the UK and was manufactured in accordance to UK Rail Standards and received approval for use.
The HOCT successfully completed a number of rail infrastructure projects, including Phases 1 and 2 of the Liverpool to Manchester rail electrification programme where the unit worked 6 nights per week over a 2 year period.
Support was provided throughout with training, spare parts and a quality system for the concrete produced which involved testing of every pour to ensure quality compliance. The concrete being mixed fresh on site made for ease of placing and allowed the work to be done efficiently with hydration taking place in the form work, producing excellent results.
The unit comprises two 8.25m3 volumetric mixers mounted on ISO twist locks built to W6A gauge that are facing each other but distributing concrete via a turret to either side of the rail wagon. Each unit has its own HATZ engine for redundancy.
The unit benefited from an electrical upgrade in recent years with the addition of touch screen PLC control. This monitors the ingredients of the concrete produced and its volume. All jobs are logged and up to 50 mix designs are able to be saved.
The unit is being sold as seen with the rail wagon but could also be used as an off rail static plant. Parts, training, modifications and refurbishment support is available from KC3 www.kc3cel.com. Shipping quotes can also be provided for export interest.
